BALL POSITION

from:

For the majority of Drives the ball position is just inside your left heel, a comfortable distance away from you. Most wood shots will be played from this position.

The distance in front of you to the ball will vary, depending on which club you are using and your build. The important thing is to be able to get a free swing at the ball from a solid base whilst keeping your balance.

As the club changes, so does the ball position in relation to the feet.

A long iron, for example a 3 or 4 iron would be positioned approximately 1 inch inside your front heel.

A mid iron, for example a 6 or 7 would be positioned approximately 1 inch further back than the 3 or 4 iron, almost in the middle of your stance.

If you are playing short irons or wedges, these are mostly played an inch further back again.

This is called progressive ball position.
